How It Works

In January 2007, the government of Nova Scotia established stringent Renewable Energy Standard regulations with a target of 20% renewable electricity generation by 2013.  Furthermore, in March of 2007 the province adopted the Sustainable Prosperity Act which commits the government to meeting provincial targets for greenhouse gas reductions (at least 20% below 1990 levels by 2020).

As a result Nova Scotia Power (NSPI) is compelled to develop more renewable energy projects to meet its regulatory obligations. In March of 2007, NSPI issued a Request for Proposals for 130MW of renewable energy.

Scotian Wind Fields Inc, along with their partners SkyPower are pleased to have negotiated a power purchase agreement with NSPI to provide a 30MW grid connected wind farm near Digby, Nova Scotia. (link to news release)
