Non-Renewable Energy
Consensus is growing that the non-renewable energy sources we rely on today are unsustainable.
They are unsustainable for several reasons. They destroy our environment and our health with damaging air-borne pollutants and effluents. They are the leading source of the greenhouse gases that are causing catastrophic global warming. They are ultimately unsustainble because their supply will literally diminish and run-out over time leaving us to seek out new sources of energy supply.
Our dependence on fossil fuels is causing the global warming crisis that we face today. In order to face that crisis governments, communities, and corporations are devising strategies to decrease that dependence. In a narrowly-focused attempt to avoid the use of fossil fuels, some have suggested nuclear as a replacement. It is true that nuclear energy does not contribute to global warming at the source of generation, but it poses significant health and environmental risks, and causes greenhouse gas emissions in its extraction, processing, and transport. Ultimately it is depletable and the sources will diminish and run out over time. It is not a sustainable energy source.
Renewable energies offer security of supply, stable cost structure, local control, and peace of mind that the energy future is secure and safe.
