The strength of Scotian WindField Inc comes from many sources, but one of the key foundations of its success is the team that makes it all happen.
 
Barry Zwicker, Chief Executive Officer

Barry has substantial experience in renewable energy and urban planning and development. He has acted as President and CEO of Scotian WindFields Inc since its inception in January 2007. Barry spent many years as Senior Planner and Director of Planning with the Town of Bedford and the City of Dartmouth respectively. He then served as Principal for Terrain Group, a planning and consulting firm based in Dartmouth. Barry’s combination of renewable energy knowledge, public service experience and consulting and developing expertise makes him perfectly suited for the many facets of renewable energy development.

David Howell, Chief Financial Officer

David is a Certified Management Accountant with over 29 years experience in financial and trust industries. He provided overall management guidance for the installation of Nova Scotia’s extremely successful Resource Recovery Fund Board program. He has enjoyed considerable success over the past 12 years in the land development and home construction sector. His financial and management expertise is sought out and utilized by several companies from a variety of sectors across Nova Scotia.

Dan Roscoe, Chief Operating Officer

Dan has enjoyed considerable success since joining the SWFI management team in early 2008. He was on board for the successful 30MW Digby project bid with NS Power. As well, he led initiatives in residential solar and embedded commercial renewable energy projects. Dan continues to build on success, as he leads the team in innovative deployment of mixed renewables, community energy initiatives, advocacy outreach, and more utility-scale bids within the province and in export markets. 

Dan began his work in community owned renewable energy with Chebucto WindField in Halifax in 2006. He built on his knowledge gained at Chebucto when he moved quickly into the role of Vice President, Communications for SWFI in 2007. Dan offers credentials in structural engineering from the University of Waterloo. He gained extensive experience in project management during a 5-year term with PCL Constructors Canada Inc. In his capacity with PCL he contributed to the success of many large projects including the Optima Tower (Toronto, ON), Halifax International Airport – US Pre-clearance, and the Lunenburg County Justice Centre. Dan’s project management experience, renewable energy expertise, and his commitment to community ownership make him a valuable asset to SWFI. 

Alan Cyr, Senior Utilities Advisor. 

The bulk of Alan’s experience is from the 19 years he spent with Emera Energy and Nova Scotia Power. As Senior Power Trader, he was responsible for the economic dispatch of over $400 Million of energy on an annual basis. Since 2006, Alan works with Stantec (Formally Neill and Gunter) as their Senior Technical Specialist. There his work has consisted of Wind Farm quality control, RFP proposal development, Power Purchase Agreement evaluation and Combined Heat and Power studies. 

Bernie Dickson, Land Specialist

Bernie has spent more than 30 years with IBM developing customer satisfaction in many large data sites. He brings knowledge and commitment for data management and integrity required to control the growing amount of information involved in land acquisitions for this renewable energy venture. This background has helped him to appreciate the complexities of land resource and what is required to achieve our goals. He has also been involved in the research and analysis of Wind Energy Converters around the world to help determine our requirement and sourcing of that product.

Gay Harley, Public Advocacy and Carbon Management

Gay brings her expertise in carbon management and carbon credit project management to the SWFI team. She was Vice President of Policy and Research for Fourth Generation Capital Corporation for 4 years. In that position she led the company’s Climate Services Division, with a focus on the Clean Development Mechanism of the Kyoto Protocol. During her term she established partnerships and projects in Central and South America and Southeast Asia. In the course of advocating for sustainability in international development, she has amassed considerable expertise in climate change projects and policy. Her project credits include small hydro, wind energy, landfill gas flaring to energy, and energy efficiency programming.

Jim Allen, Doctor Solar – Solar Systems Installation

Jim brings more than 20 years of solar thermal system installation experience to the SWFI team. As Owner / Operator of Doctor Solar Inc, Jim has established himself as the foremost installer for Thermo Dynamics Ltd, a Nova Scotian manufacturer of solar thermal systems. Doctor Solar and Scotian WindFields Inc have agreed to combine forces to help expand the solar thermal industry in Nova Scoita. Jim’s extensive experience with residential and large scale solar systems will provide SWFI with the necessary practical knowledge to effectively ramp up turnkey and embedded generation business plans. Teaching and training will also play an important role for Jim in his role with the SWFI team.
