Process

Adding a wind turbine to your home energy mix can be a confusing and time-consuming process. When you work with Scotian WindFields, we take on the regulatory and administrative details and remove all the guesswork.

When you call us about small wind solutions for your energy needs, Scotian WindFields assesses your energy needs by evaluating your consumption patterns. We also perform an assessment of the wind energy available at your location. With our sophisticated tools and modeling software, we can show you the costs and options for utilizing the wind resources at your location.

There are three main steps to assessing which wind energy technologies to use:

1. assessing your current energy use and patterns,

2. assessing the wind energy resources onsite and your ability to harness them, and

3. modeling and sizing renewable energy applications for your particular situation.

In general, the wind resources in Nova Scotia are very good. Nova Scotia’s location in the Gulf Stream brings abundant wind year round. Nova Scotia enjoys much stronger winds than other jurisdictions including world leaders in wind energy development like Germany. Despite our good resources, not every location is right for on-site renewable energy, and generally sites with a wind speed greater than 6m/s are preferable.

Local and on-site conditions are also a contributing factor to turbine output. Tall trees, buildings and hills can all affect performance. It is important that your wind turbine is higher than any objects within its facility, and some wind turbines come with different size towers to help address this issue.

Our knowledge of the industry enables us to customize your solutions with the best wind energy generators for your situation. We develop solutions that are scaled to fit your needs and take best advantage of the resources available.
