The Scotian WindFields Philosophy

The Scotian WindFields philosophy is based on 2 strong pillars:

1. Community involvement is integrated into every element of planning and our corporate structure.
2. We will satisfy the energy needs of all Nova Scotians at all levels from large wind farms to home-based renewables.

Scotian WindField Inc was formed by agreement among regional community WindFields. These community WindFields were established to gather investment that would be dedicated to increasing the amount of community-owned, locally produced renewable energy. After years of attempting to implement this vision alone, the community groups realized that they needed a single organization dedicated to producing and managing renewable energy projects. As a result, Scotian WindFields was formed to fill this need.

The strategy was a resounding success.

The partnership with the community WindFields provides Nova Scotians with a direct means for ownership of their local energy resources and in turn, provides Scotian WindFields Inc with a link to network directly with community stakeholders, decision-makers, service-providers, and landowners.

As a result of this partnership:

• Scotian WindFields Inc has succeeded in bidding on and winning a Power Purchase Agreement with Nova Scotia Power Inc for a 30 MW wind farm near Digby.
• Scotian WindFields Inc is developing several projects in the commercial (inside the fence) provision of renewable energy for retail and industrial entities.
• Scotian Windfields Inc has established a presence in the small scale renewables (wind and solar) for home and small business.
