Wednesday, June 2, 2010

DARTMOUTH, NS – June 2, 2010 – Scotian WindFields Inc is pleased to announce that Gay Harley, Manager of their Scotian Carbon Services division is part of the first graduating class of CSA (Canadian Standards Association) certified Greenhouse Gas Inventory Quantifiers recently named by North America’s pre-eminent certification standards body.

“By engaging certified professionals and using recognized international standards and protocols, businesses give consumers assurance that their environmental claims are real,” said Dan Roscoe, Chief Operating Officer of Scotian WindFields. “Certification is essential. Without it, companies throw around meaningless labels like sustainable, green, and eco-friendly. These claims ring hollow in the ears of consumers, unless they can back them up with solid accounting principles.”

Tracking greenhouse gas emissions through certified inventory management practices also allows savvy businesses to assess and control costs associated with energy consumption and carbon output. Carbon footprints and inventories that are performed according to international standards mean that businesses are measured against a universal benchmark. Establishing a rigorous greenhouse gas baseline gives managers a realistic snapshot on which to base decisions, projections, and emissions reduction strategies.

Supply chain management of carbon impacts is a significant key to market access with major retailers. Suppliers across Canada are waking up to a new reality that requires carbon footprinting across the board. Greenhouse Gas Inventory Quantifiers help suppliers open the door to new markets by guiding and standardizing carbon footprints.

Ms Harley earned this designation by participating in a rigorous beta examination process which tested knowledge and skills in greenhouse gas accounting fundamentals such as inventory boundary setting, management planning, data collection and emissions calculations.

Certifications and standards are a crucial element in the emergent field of greenhouse gas accounting. With the importance placed on environmental accountability in today’s marketplace, businesses and consumers need to know that claims of low carbon impact, or carbon neutrality are valid. Only third party certification based on recognized standards provides that level of assurance.

Scotian Carbon Services provides carbon management and offset brokerage consulting services throughout Atlantic Canada.
